| The Maserati Club of
Australia, Inc. was founded in 1981. It is based in Melbourne, presently the home of
the Australian Grand Prix for Formula One, which is run in March each year at the
Albert Park Lake circuit. The Club is a voting member of CAMS (the
Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) which is the body responsible for the management
of motor sport in Australia. It is also a voting member of the AOMC (Association of
Motoring Clubs).
Whilst based in Melbourne, the Club nonetheless attracts a
membership from around Australia and also has some international members.
Membership in the Club is no longer limited to Maserati
owners, but is open to persons who have an interest in the activities and events promoted
and organised by the Club. Currently membership of the Club stands at over 250
financial members of whom 40% own one or more Maserati. The range of Maserati owned
by members is quite extensive and includes such models as 1937 Tipo 6CM-1500, 1939 Tipo
4CL-1500, 1955 Tipo A6GCS (2nd Series) and 1956 Tipo 300S. Production cars range
from early 3500's and include all models through to the Khamsin and Kyalami. Most
of the Bi turbo models that followed are also represented in the club including the
Maserati Ghibli Cup-Racing version. Also present in the
club are 3200GT's and their newer successors the Maserati Coupe, Spyder and
more recently the Trofeo.
Maserati cars whilst significant in numbers are accompanied
by a comprehensive range of other marque cars seen at club track days and social events
including: Alfa Romeo, Alvis, Aston Martin, Austin Healey, Bentley, Ferrari, Jaguar,
Lamborghini, Lotus, MG, OSCA and Porsche.
Whilst many members choose to use their cars (new and
older) in a passive manner, the majority use their (new and older)
cars quite actively. Members of the club are represented in a wide range of
motorsport activity, ranging from club track days and sprints, through tarmac rallies and
circuit racing at national and international events.
For an overview of the types of events promoted and
