A
project initiated in 1991 by Maserati to stimulate interest in the marque
and provide interested parties the opportunity of purchasing and racing a
factory prepared car in a factory sponsored one-marque series.
Designed for 25 Barchetta 'Corsa' the series commenced in 1992 and
continued into 1993 with no more than 13 cars on the grid at any one
meeting. A total of 16 cars were produced - two were initially
retained by the factory but have now found their way to private
owners. A 'street-legal' version of the car - the 'Stradale' - was
planned but it is not known whether the car was actually ever built.
Several of the 'Corsa' cars were converted to 'road-going' form by the
owners, including one of the guest cars owned by the factory, which had
rudimentary lighting fitted for its appearance in Targa Tasmania 1994.
