Notes
Relative to the 'supercars' produced by Ferrari
(eg Daytona) and Lamborghini (Muira) the Maserati Bora showed tremendous
potential. The French Maserati distributor (Thepenier) commissioned the factory to
make two cars to take advantage of the Bora's inherent speed and handling
qualities. The result was two very special cars which were very light
and no doubt would have proved super-competitive in the 1974 Le Mans for
which they had been built. Unfortunately insufficient numbers were
built to enable the cars to compete in the GT category for which they were
intended.
The photographs that
appear on this page of the Maserati Bora Group IV LeMans (#117.3000) have been taken by Andreas Birner for the Barchetta
site and are shown here
with permission.
The photographs in
this series were taken at Spa and at Nuerburgring during the Ferrari Maserati Challenge in
1999.
