| Notes |
|
| Introduced at the
Geneva Show in 1995, the Ghibli 'Open' Cup signified the commencement in
1995 of a one-marque race series, similar to that attempted with the
Barchetta. For the price of the car (£48,000) and a further fee
(£9,000) to cover entry, tyres etc, the driver could participate in 7
races in the 1995 season. At the end of the series, if required, the
cars could be converted for road use by the factory and sold. The
1995 series was a success and some 27 cars were built by the factory in
conjunction with Alfa Corse. In 1996 an upgrade kit was made
available and those with the upgrade to Maserati Ghibli 'Open' Cup
Evoluzione status were
eligible. The upgrade included rose-jointed suspension, 18"
wheels with larger discs and calipers, a new lower front spoiler with
larger air intakes, a boot mounted spoiler and higher revving turbos.
The 1996 series came to an end after two races. The by-product of
the series was the limited production of a road-going version of the car
called the Ghibli Cup. |
