Brief History:
The end of the 2 litre formula at the end of 1953 and the movement to the new Formula 1, found Maserati placed in an interesting position with the AGCM still not at its peak, but with a solid foundation to develop a car for the new 2500 cc formula.  The 250F ('F' for formula) was the new car.  It combined the best from the AGCM - the in-line six cylinder engine, dual camshafts and dual ignition - and new developments, including - a new differential in unit with the transmission, mounted overhanging in a transverse position, tubular lattice work by Colotti and a De Dion axle flipped 180º.  With Columbo gone the project was managed by Alfieri.  Initially there was heavy demand for the car and a hybrid developed on the AGCM chassis.  In both versions the car was the pacesetter in Formula 1.  The evolution of the car continued with the adoption of a new cylinder head, 5-speed gearbox and test with an aerodynamic body, disk brakes and fuel injection in 1995.  In 1956 the engine group was offset and there were revisions to the chassis in 1957 which influenced the appearance of the car.  Its best seasons were in 1956 and in 1957 when Fangio won the World Championship.  The 250F had its first race in January 1954 and its last in November 1960
