Notes

The development of sports car races in the period after the war was stimulated by Le Mans, the Mille Miglia and the introduction of the World Marque Championship in 1953 which had seen the A6GCS perform creditably in this period.  In 1954, following the same path as with the A6GCS, an engine from the 250F was placed in an A6GCS, with reduced compression and run on standard fuel at a compression ratio of 9:1.  This was the first 250S and it was intended for the 1954 Mille Miglia.  Then the Supercortemaggiore GP was moved from Merano to Monza and open for 3.0 litres and this event saw the first true 250S.  Two cars were entered, but both retired - the 250S was placed on hold.  Encouraged by new regulations for the 1956 Le Mans which favoured sports cars of 2.5 litres, a new prototype was built, making the third 250S.  It took part in races without success in Africa at Agadir, Perdisa and at Dakar with Musy.  The two cars entered at Le Mans had technical failures and that was the end of the 250S in that form - later a 4 cylinder version would make an appearance.
