Brief History:
The failure of the international formula created an opportunity for Alfieri to pursue a new 2000 cc displacement.  Abandoning his previous experience with a 2000 cc Diatto he instead increased the bore of the Tipo 26 and added a new driveshaft whilst retaining the concept and outward appearance of the car.  The Tipo 26B debuted on April 24, 1927 at the Targa Florio. Only six examples were built plus two motors, one of which was used in a renumbered frame.  One motor was developed to 2109 cc. Maserati won the Italian manufacturer's championship in only its second year of activity.
