Notes

At least three of the Tipo 26M (monoposto) vehicles (or 8C 2500 Sport) were converted for use as a two-seat sport version for competition in such events as the Mille Miglia.  However Castagna Coachbuilders presented a 'street version' of the race car with two-seats in 1931 at the Milan Automobile Show, called the 'Gran Sport'.  Zagato built a similar version later in the same year and in 1932 won the 'Prize for Excellence' in the open category at the Villa d'Este Concourse d'Elegance.   The production of these cars could be said to be Maserati's introduction to producing cars for private non-racing purposes, their first effort at a 'road car'. Only two four seat frames were known to be built - both destined for England and endurance events.
