| Due to the heavy involvement in Grand Prix events, the 4CM 1500 was not really fully utilised until 1934. Based on the 1100 cc version, the car had a triumphant season in 1934, but in 1935 with continuing competition appeared to be in decline. Extra effort was therefore put into the 6CM by Ernesto Maserati which yielded great benefits for the 4CM including a revised engine with more power, coming from fixed head engines (from 1935), larger compressors and a two barrel Weber of the 45DCO, similar chassis to the 6CM, and independent front suspension. The 4CM 1500 thus remained competitive until the end of 1938.
