Notes
Having overcome most of its financial problems, Maserati sought to satisfy the demand for a 2 litre sports car.  Whilst the formulation of the car was orthodox it was the chassis composed of a network of 200 thin welded tubes of 10, 12, and 15 mm diameter earned it the name "Birdcage" or "Maserati Spaghetti".  The front suspension was similar to the final version of the 250F and the rear end used a De Dion axle guided by longitudinal struts, connecting bars in front of the wheel axles and the shaft fixed in the mechanical part of the transmission.  The engine was based on the 200S with dual ignition with a new method of valve actuation using hairpin springs. The engine was mounted at an angle of 45º to the right giving it a low profile.  The body was built by Gentilini and Allegretti.  From its first start in July 1959 the Type 60 dominated the 2 litre class, however most of its activity was in Italy where it continued to dominate until the mid 60's.
