Brief History:
Using the engine from the Tipo 151/3 in which Casner had been killed in practice, Simone from the Maserati France Team commissioned a new car for the 1965 Le Mans.  With the engine still in a mid-engine position but not as far forward, the rear suspension was not of the De Dion type as on the Type 64, but with independent wheels using longitudinal torsion bars.  The engine from the ill-fated 151/3 was used with some modifications to the ports and combustion chambers.  The double ignition system was by four coils and two distributors.  The body resumed a more traditional Maserati appearance.  Following the Le Mans event the chassis was further revised with major changes to the front suspension, change in the body and weight reduction.
