Based on the definitive design of the AGCM mechanicals by Gioachini Columbo and known variously as the 'Sports 2000', the A6GCS/53 or simply as the A6GCS, it had the short-stroke motor, but with a much reduced compression ratio of 9:1 or less.  Built with a tubular type structure and it employed a suspension similar to that on the single-seat AGCM.  The original body was also designed by Columbo and later interpreted by Fiandri and Fantuzzi.  Whilst the spyder dominated the 52 models built this total also included other versions of the car built by Pininfarina (4 coupes) and two spyders, one by each of Frua and Vignale.  The A6GCS/53 was frequently used in road racing and endurance events of the period by private teams - to such an extent that the extended production of this model delayed the 200S, which was its direct heir.
