| The most developed
of the 2 litre cars to this point featuring a double overhead camshaft
engine with four valves per cylinder and intended as the 'S' version of
the 222. New IHI turbos, Active
mechanical front suspension, power steering, disc brakes all round,
self-vented in front with floating calipers and Ranger differential.
Electronic suspension with four driver-selected settings based on road
surface were available as an option. In 1990 a special performance version
of the 2.24v designated the 'Racing' was released. This car produced
much greater performance and could be considered the precursor to the
Ghibli which followed. 1991 the 2.24v was upgraded (Series
II) with a facelift which rounded the corners and edges of the car,
sideskirts were added together with new front and rear spoilers, new
spoked wheels and electronic suspension (Koni) was standard - the rear
suspension was revised. The interior of the car was also upgraded. |
