Brief History:
The most developed of the 2 litre cars to this point featuring a double overhead camshaft engine with four valves per cylinder and intended as the 'S' version of the 222.  New IHI turbos, Active mechanical front suspension, power steering, disc brakes all round, self-vented in front with floating calipers and Ranger differential.  Electronic suspension with four driver-selected settings based on road surface were available as an option. In 1990 a special performance version of the 2.24v designated the 'Racing' was released.  This car produced much greater performance and could be consider the precursor of the Ghibli which followed.  The 'Racing' generated increased horsepower (283 bhp up from 245 bhp), introduced the Getrag gear box and a revised suspension, features that would be adopted on the Series II version of the 2.24v.   1991 the 2.24v was upgraded (Series II) with a facelift which rounded the corners and edges of the car, sideskirts were added together with new front and rear spoilers, new spoked wheels and electronic suspension (Koni) was standard - the rear suspension was revised. The interior of the car was also upgraded.
