De Tomaso has focused on the domestic market
with the introduction of the Biturbo range, which meant 2 litres due to the
super VAT tax, but on December 14, 1984 a car meant to appeal to the marque's
traditional customer base with a larger engine and a more luxuriously finish
was released in the form of a 2.8 litre V6 with an output of 255 bhp.
It was produced in limited production until 1986 when a fuel injected
version the 228i was released. Export sales of this model with its
above average finish were quite high. In export markets the car was
offered with automatic transmission.
