In response to demand for a 'performance'
version of the Maserati 3200GT coupé
the limited edition 3200GT Assetto Corsa was unveiled
at the Melbourne International Motor Show, just a day prior to the release
of the 320S Barchetta at the
Geneva Motor Show.
The limited edition 3200GT Assetto Corsa
emphasises the
sporting character of the 3200GT (Corsa means track and Assetto means
handling), with the majority of development work
being on handling and braking performances. Maserati has decided
that extra performance doesn’t mean less comfort and the 3200GT
Assetto Corsa continues to surround its four adult occupants in luxury,
with a sporty new Connelly sports leather interior. Power continues
to come from the impressive 271 kilowatt V8 twin turbo engine - the
additional features of the car are outlined below.
Only 150 will be built worldwide, with
10 being allocated for the Australian and New Zealand marketplace. Deliveries
of the Assetto Corsa start in August 2001 and expectations are that the
price will be $15,000 above the 3200GT retail price.
