| Notes |
| The 3200GT was
released in September, 1998. The car is powered by the 3.2 litre V8
first seen in the Shamal, but now producing 370 bhp. A 3200GT spyder
is planned for 2002 when Maserati again will enter the US market.
Prior to the release of the 3200GT sketches of the car had appeared in a variety of
places - two of these were published in in a 1996 issue of iL
TRIDENTE - the magazine of The Maserati Club (US). Now following the
release of the car, it is interesting to reflect on the similarities
between these two sketches and the final product. The 3200GT is of
course a design by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ital design, the person
responsible for the original Ghibli, Bora, Boomerang, Merak, Quattroporte
III and Royale. His design echoes the rounded shapes of the Maserati
race cars of the 50's and the 3200GT name signifies an important point of
renewal for the company just as the 3500GT perhaps did in 1954 when Alfieri first conceived it.
