On December 14, 1986 the anniversary of the founding of Maserati, the Royale version of the Quattroporte III was unveiled replacing the previous version.  The interior of the vehicle was "enriched with numerous accessories designed to make a luxurious ambience even more comfortable".  External appearance was similar to its predecessor, but performance had been improved and the 'Royale' script was evident on the trunk.
