The
first prototype was presented at Geneva in 1962 and then following further
refinement at Turin in 1963 and marketed in 1964. Using the same
mechanicals as the 3500GTI on a shorter wheelbase, alternative engines
based on the in-line 6 of the 3500 were offered from 1965: 3.7 litre
and 4.0 litre. The engine changes were accompanied by some
detailed styling changes. An automatic transmission was also
available.
