Brief
History
Following the
release of the coupe and the sedan was the Biturbo Spyder. Based on the
floor pan of the coupe the wheelbase was shortened to 2400 mm and the body
was entrusted to Zagato who retained the family styling. As was the
case with the coupe the Spyder was offered in foreign markets with a 2.5
litre motor and a 2.0 litre motor in domestic markets. The fuel injected version the
Spyder i was released in
1987 in 2.0 litre form for domestic markets and 2.5 litre form for
export. The Spyder i '90 was announced on December 14, 1989 at the time
of the release of the Shamal and incorporated a number of subtle design
changes - the export model however was equipped with the 2.8 litre motor.
The Spyder III was released in 1991 and was produced through to
1994 in both 2.0 litre and 2.8 litre form. As was the case with
previous models a variety of changes were made to both handling and
performance, albeit that the overall appearance remained much the same.
