More than 90 paid entries were
received for this event, in the end there were 84 cars lined up to start the day after the
usual late withdrawals due to mechanical problems of varying sorts. A report on the
day may be found in Recent
Track Events, which includes a listing of all cars and drivers that actually
made it to the event and includes a summary of times by marque and by driver.
Detailed individual lap times may be downloaded
from the site.
Photographs on this day were taken by
Greg Ford of Big Lens Media. The following cars are featured on
this page:
1996
Maserati Ghibli Cup. The first of two cars in Australia and brought out
to race in GTP. A total of 24 were built by the factory. Andrew's is probably the
only one that has been converted to RHD and set up for tarmac rallies such as Targa
Tasmania.
1994
Ford GT40 (Replica). Brilliant looking car and beautifully finished.
Driven by Ross Holder these hand-made replicas are produced by 'Roaring Fourties'
in Seaford, Victoria.
1960
Aston Martin DB4. This all alloy Aston Martin driven by Scott Shearman
was getting in some quick laps in preparation for Classic Adelaide.
1964
Iso Rivolta IR300 GT in the foreground is the car of Chris Stephen. The
yellow car is the 1969 Marcos 3000GTof
Rob Sherrard. They are doing what everyone else does in motorsport ... waiting
around. This pit lane shot has been taken in the morning as drivers line up waiting
for the day to start.
1988 Mazda
RX7. Driven by Brad Sherriff who came up from Tasmania to drive the car
on the day proved very quick. It took some practice though! This 'off' on Turn
1, is probably something Brad doesn't want to be reminded of.
1994
Caterham K Series S7. Harry Williams in this striking Clubman is
seen here taking a passenger on board in the morning session to give him the guided tour.
1973
Jaguar XJ6 Sprinter. Murray Scoble appears to have dropped the drive
shaft whilst battling for control. The 'Sprinters' look like they may get a proper
race series going in 2000
