Heather Greaves and her team at the
Association of Motoring Clubs, Inc (AOMC) have earned the plaudits of all those involved
in the historic vehicle movement in Victoria for their years of commitment to getting
older cars both LHD and RHD on to the road.Mr Geoff Craige, the Victorian Minister for
Roads and Ports announced during September that cars brought into Victoria in left hand
drive form and which were over 30 years old now and less than 4.5 tonne GVM are with
immediate effect entitled to full unrestricted registration. "Many such vehicles
are genuine originals and conversion to right hand drive can destroy their value" he
said.
The amended registration requirements bring Victoria into line with the new Australian
vehicle standards proposed by the National Road Transport Commission.
For consistency, restrictions have also been lifted on LHD Club Permit vehicles, so
that Left hand drive vehicle which are 25 years old are now admitted to the Club Scheme
(CH Plates) through Clubs (such as the Maserati Club) which are Club Permit authorised
clubs which are also members of the AOMC. "... this move recognises the care and
responsibility club members exercise in using these special vehicles on our roads" Mr
Craige said.
