This all new Maserati is due for release in September
in Bologna near the Piazza del Nettuno under the watchful gaze of Neptunes
statue whose distinctively shaped trident inspired its adoption as the
symbol for Officine Alfieri Maserati SpA. It is this statue the club
features on the Supplementary Regulations and on the results for Club
Track Days.
The new Maserati Spyder will be powered by an all new
4.4 litre naturally aspirated V8. The twin-turbo of the present 3200GT
will end its life with that car - a move criticised by many due to the
valuable experience Maserati has developed with turbo-charged engines.
The Maserati Spyder is NOT a variant of the 3200GT but
is in fact a completely new car though similar in appearance to the
3200GT.
As will can be seen from the rear view of the car the
distinctive boomerang rear light treatment of the 3200GT has been
abandoned on the new Spyder. Apparently as a result of market
research in the US where customer opinion favoured the new treatment. The
US market is of course the principal target for Maserati and the longevity
of the marque is dependent on its success there.
