Just three years have passed since Mario
took delivery of the Vignale Spyder No 678 which as those who have
followed this saga will be aware is one of two prototypes developed by
Vignale for consideration by Maserati. Photographs of these two
cars, Chassis No 678 and Chassis
No 505 show that they were quite splendid examples in their day.
When Mario took delivery of #678 it was
just a bare shell accompanied by lots of parts. A real jigsaw
puzzle.
In March 2000, just prior to the Australian
Grand Prix, Mario got the final part of the jigsaw puzzle (a windscreen)
and was able to bring the painstaking restoration he had embarked on to a
successful conclusion. As the photographs
below show, the car is now truly magnificent - further photographs of
this car may be found in the 3500GT
Spyder Gallery.
Finished in midnight blue with cherry red
Connolly leather the car is equipped with genuine centre-spline Borrani
knock-on wires. No doubt it is in as good, if not better condition
than when it left the factory all those years ago.
The car will be in the showrooms of LANCE
DIXON in Richmond for the period of March through till June 2000 - Lance
Dixon is the Melbourne dealer for Maserati and Ferrari. If you have
an interest in this car it is worth taking a trip to Richmond. By
the way, if you want to see another one, you'll have to take a trip to the
Maserati museum in Italy. After all, there are only two. |
