The President's Day

Each year on the Sunday prior to the conduct of The Melbourne Cup the club conducts The President's Day.  This event generally takes one of two forms, viz:

  • Vehicle Display and BBQ
An informal get-together of members held on the Sunday morning is the usual format.  A BBQ which is free of charge to members is provided.

  • Club Concours
Held infrequently these days the Concours is held at the same location and is announced in the club newsletter.

Details of both days are provided below.

Dates

The President's Day is held each year on the Sunday prior to the running of the Melbourne Cup.

By special arrangement with fellow member John Fitzpatrick at The Swallows and the Port Phillip Council, the venue is the beautiful tree lined Howe Reserve adjacent to The Swallows in Station Street, Port Melbourne.  The address is

  • Howe Reserve, Corner Ingles & Station Street, Port Melbourne

  • Swallows Hotel, 192 Station Street, Port Melbourne

In those years when the Club Concours is held, arrangements to close off Howe Reserve and Station Street for the purposes of this event are made, depending on the number of entries.TO TOP OF THIS PAGE

Members BBQ and Awards

In most years a Concours is not held and the Club provides a BBQ free of charge to Members, commencing at 10.30 am and continuing on to 12.30 pm. Members are invited to bring along an interesting car.

This is the difficult choice for those that intend to stay on. Those attending the day can enjoy either their own catered luncheon in the leafy surrounds of Howe Reserve or a fine meal in the comfort of The Swallows.  Due to numbers attending both forms of the event a luncheon booking at Swallows Hotel is essential, if that is your selected option.

Not everyone necessarily wants to compete in a concours - that's why we don't hold it regularly.  In order to encourage members and others to bring their cars along on President's Day, no judging takes place and no special awards are on offer.  Whilst no prizes are on offer - no work is involved either!   Just bring your car along as is to help fill the reserve with cars on the day.

TO TOP OF THIS PAGECost?

Entries for the Club Concours are a modest  $10 per vehicle.  Proceeds raised from the Entry Fees will contribute to the cost of the trophies presented on the day. Display vehicles are of course admitted to the reserve for free.

TO TOP OF THIS PAGEWho can come?

The Club Concours, when conducted, is open not only to club members, but also to members from any car club.  The objective is to encourage as many participants as possible.

In particular this is a FAMILY day.  You are encouraged to bring your wife/partner and children, relatives and other friends to come along and participate and help make this a great day.

TO TOP OF THIS PAGEEntry Forms & Booking Slips

For those entering the Club Concours, PREFERENCE is given in securing a much sought after reservation for the first class luncheon to be provided by The Swallows. That's a further incentive to enter your car in the concours!

Entry Forms & Booking Slips can be downloaded from this website.

Remember, entries from members of other marque car clubs will be most welcome.
