| The 2002 Classic Tour previously
called the South West Classic and prior to that the Spring Tour will be
conducted in August, 2002. The event which is part of
the HRA Club Championships is nonetheless open to vehicles of all ages. A limit of
60 entries is placed on the field. Whilst the event is part of the HRA Club Championships
it is nonetheless conducted in a manner to make it an enjoyable weekend away. The
event offers the opportunity for socialising as well as some friendly competition. A
feature of the event is the dinner held on the Saturday night of the event.
Typically the event commences at a point one
hour west of Melbourne on the Saturday and travels to Warrnambool using closed road sections, navigation
and touring sections and a number of other tests. A Saturday evening
meal is held at an interesting location and is usually a highlight of the
event. The Sunday usually has more closed road sections, a motorkhana and a
navigation/touring/economy run to an afternoon finish near Geelong.
All cars in the event are eligible for outright awards.
And the navigation will, I am told, not be as hard as in previous years.
Best news: The cost is around $200 (including dinner for
two) early entries, late entries incur a slight
penalty.
This event is a lot of fun and is very professionally
administered. The event comprises some closed road stages, driving tests and of
course some very challenging navigation.
