Now in its
9th year Targa
New Zealand is scheduled to get underway on Monday, October 27
with the Drivers Briefing and Prologue Stage. Scrutineering is at the Waipuna Hotel in Auckland on
Sunday, October 26. The event concludes with the finish
and prizegiving on Saturday, November 2, 2003.
The route is made up of around 2,000 kilometres of touring and closed
tarmac stages. Special stages range from smooth surfaces to roller coaster and from 2 km
in length to 20+ km in length. There are 8 -10 stages per day and you will tour through
New Zealand =s beautiful scenery.
Competitor vehicles are started at 1 minute intervals on special stages
and usually grouped in their category. Slowest start first. Those familiar with Targa
Tasmania will find licensing, vehicle and driver requirements similar.
If you would like to compete (there are special packages to get your
car there) then call Targa New Zealand on +64 9 298 8322 for further details. Targa New
Zealand is on the web and the address is: www.targa.co.nz
