The Forest Classic Rally is an all-bitumen event which explores the North
East of Victoria:
Background
This year's all bitumen "Forest Classic Rally", a 2 day Touring Road
Event, will be held on the weekend of May 17-18 which coincides with Targa
Tasmania. The event, now in its
5th year, has proved to be extremely popular with owners of classic, historic and sports cars by providing an
event that combines some great driver's roads with logical, straightforward
navigation. Reports
on previous events can be found on this site.
The
2003 event will again be based in Wangaratta in north eastern Victoria, just
2 hours up the Hume Freeway from Melbourne, during the area's beautiful
Autumn weather. Entrants in the all-bitumen Forest Classic Rally can look
forward to a great weekend's motor sport in one of the most picturesque
parts of the state.
Eligibility
& Categories
The
Forest Classic Rally is open to any classic, historic or sports car from the
1940's to the present day, and includes "late classics" up to
2000. The event is divided into 2 categories:
-
Experts:
The Experts category is for those crews who enjoy a navigational
challenge; and
-
Novices:
The Novice category is for those who would rather cover the same route
but with easier instructions, hence this category will be fully route
charted.
Day
One: Saturday
The
event commences on Saturday morning in Wangaratta with a couple of
motorkhana tests before offering crews around 200 kilometres of navigation
and driving during the morning before a lunch stop is taken en-route. The
afternoon's activities, approximately another 200 kilometres on some real
drivers roads, will finish back in town at around 4pm so that crews can
return to their motels for a break before attending the convivial rally
dinner that evening.
Day
Two: Sunday
The
following morning an 8am start will see crews heading out again for a
further 300 kilometres of driving and navigation and a further 2 motorkhana
tests. By 1pm all competitors will have arrived back in Wangaratta for a
smorgasbord lunch at a local winery, where provisional results will be
announced. The early finishing time gives crews a chance to return home
before dark after enjoying a great weekend's motorsport.
