RETURN TO FORTHCOMING RALLY EVENTS

Tour De Course
THIS EVENT WILL NOT BE RUN IN 2002

A popular event that has attracted the interest of club members over the past two years, the Harman Autosports Tour De Course  is run in July and limited to a relatively small field of 20 to 30 cars.

The event is divided between three categories, viz:

  • Early Classic: for vehicles manufactured 1970 or prior - Porsche with up to 2400 cc are accepted;

  • Modern Classic: for vehicles manufactured from 1971 to the end of 1979; and

  • Super Car: for vehicles manufactured from 1980 to the present day.

The loss of Broadford as a venue for events of this type has lead to a rearrangement for the finishing day for this event.  Calder will be substituted for Broadford (as the 4th venue utilised) and will enable a Melbourne finish to the event on the Sunday afternoon.

The event kicks of with scrutineering on the evening of the Wednesday prior to the start and then:

  • Friday: Starting with a Driver Briefing at Mangalore Airport there are four events at Mangalore before moving on to spend the afternoon at DECA.  Accommodation is at Shepparton.

  • Saturday: Its off to Winton for the day.  The morning spent on the short circuit, then some time on the Winton Wet Circle then back to the circuit and then long the long circuit for the balance of the day before once again returning to Shepparton.

  • Sunday: Following some navigation to make things interesting the morning is to be spent at Calder and the early afternoon at a hill climb followed by a transport to a hotel in the Keilor area and the presentations from 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm.

The Tour De Course has received many plaudits from Club members who have participated in the event over the past two years.   It certainly provides the opportunity to gain real familiarity with the selected circuit venues.   Importantly it is an event that also gives your co-Driver a real driving role.   The feature of the Tour De Course is that each aspect of the event is run twice - once for the driver and once for the co-driver.  Now that really is value for money!
