| This event successfully completed its
fifth running in 2001 and appears to have cemented itself on the motor sport calendar at this time
of year. The event is open to all vehicles, including 4WD.
The Entry Form and Supplementary Regulations are posted on the Download
or Quick Access pages, when
available. The Winter Classic Rally commences on the Friday evening of the long
weekend in June with documentation and a briefing for navigators designed to advise
navigators of the conventions adopted in the event..
The event gets under way on Saturday morning and utilises
Victoria Park in Ballarat, where the event is centred, for an early morning closed road
event. Navigation stages follow as does an additional closed road stage and a range
of challenging driving tests.
Sunday and Monday follow the same pattern, but
utilise
different areas of Victoria Park and locate the navigation and additional driving tests
and closed road stages at new locations as well. The event concludes with a
Presentation Dinner on the Monday night. The quality of the trophies is outstanding.
This is a highly competitive and challenging event.
It is extremely well-run and takes in a very large part of central Victoria.
Approximately 450 kms are driven each day of the event, so each day is packed with a range
of interesting and diverse events.
Taking a leaf from events such as the Lactos Heritage Rally
the event is based around one central location with all competitors staying at the one
site. This is a decided benefit and promotes a high level of interaction between
competitors. All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are included in the Entry Fee
and Accommodation Package which is to the order of $1,200.
