The first Dutton Rally was run last weekend.
This event, which is similar to the Tour deCourse in concept, involves
no navigation and concentrates solely on performance events. In the
absence of navigation, the event enables Drivers and Co-drivers to compete
using the same car. Separate awards are available for both Drivers and
Co-drivers. As a result of this arrangement 18 of the 53 entries elected
to run without a Co-driver - I guess they had to wash their own cars!
The 53 entries for a first-up event was itself quite laudable. The
feedback we have received suggests it was not only a very well run event,
but also a lot of fun!
The event utilised venues such as
- Shepparton Airport
- DECA
- Winton, and
- Calder
and was run over two days and commencing in Shepparton. Operating under
the overall direction of Sam Beck with assistance from Danny Loypur and
David Gittus (Event Director IndyCar Rally) as Event Advisors the
event has Ted Perkins as Clerk of Course.
As could be expected there were a few club members represented. Of the
53 entries at least 9 were members of the club (my apologies for anyone I
have left out) including:
As far as results were concerned, the outcome for the Outright
Driver Trophy was:
Nick Stillwell - BMW M Coupe
Peter Gazzard - Subaru WRX STI
David Cuff - Ford TE50
The Outright Co-Driver Trophy went to:
Steve Richards - Porsche 911 GT3
Glenn Kennaday - BMW M Coupe
Andrew Fuller - Mitsubishi EVO6
Class winners for Drivers Trophies were
A1 Graeme Bell - BMW 325i
B3 Lee Wilson - Ford Falcon
C2 Nick Stillwell - BMW M Coupe
C3 Peter Gazzard - Subaru WRX STI
D1 Gavin James - Porsche 944 C2
D2 Dean Cook - Porsche 911 RS
Class Trophies were also awarded to Co-drivers. Overall the event
appears to have been very successful, no doubt we will all get to hear
more of it in future.
