The Phillip Island Auto Racing Club (PIARC)
conducts regular SuperSprints throughout the year. These events cater to a wide
range of vehicle classes. The calendar is shown below.
PIARC maintain their own
website
and entry forms can be downloaded directly from that site. The
club copies these files for events held at Phillip Island and when
available they can be accessed
directly from this site.
It should be noted that a SuperSprint is not a race
meeting, but is conducted in the form of multiple-start timed lap sessions. These
events, when conducted at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Motor Racing Circuit are generally
conducted over two days, however, each day may be entered separately, viz:
- Saturday: This is a circuit familiarisation
day. Driver Training and Instruction is available if required. Cars are split
into groups of 14 to 20 cars. Each group is given approximately 20 minutes on the
circuit before the next group is called. Typically there are usually 60 to 100 cars
present, but despite the numbers many 'sessions' can be achieved over the course of the
day. Saturday provides an outstanding opportunity to gain familiarisation with this
challenging track at your own pace. To participate on Saturday you
only have to present your Maserati Club membership card and a CAMS Level
2S or superior competition licence.
- Sunday: This day is dedicated to
SuperSprints. Cars are usually started in two's or three's, simulating to some
extent the feeling of a race. However, the results of the event are determined by
the elapsed time achieved for a lap of the circuit and not the first across the line as
would be the case in a race. A SuperSprint could be described as being
similar to the qualifying portion of a race meeting. Specifically the event
consists of a number of multi-start events of one standing lap and three individually
timed laps. Typically, participants get four to five runs. Maserati Club
members are of course are required
to produce their Membership card and CAMS licence, as per Saturday, to
participate in this event..
These events, which are conducted throughout the year
attract a wide range of vehicles which are divided into the following classes
for 'standard' and 'modified' cars participating in the SuperSprint:
- Under 1600 cc
- 1601 cc to 2000 cc
- 2001 cc to 3000 cc
- Over 3000 cc
The Calendar for the 2001 SuperSprint
series organized by PIARC and to be conducted at the Phillip Island Grand
Prix Circuit are as follows:
